Community-led local development
In recent years, GOAL has been working closely with the poorest and most vulnerable people in its target areas in Honduras to empower them to lead their own community development.
Our Community-led Local Development programme provides on-the-job training during the implementation of infrastructure projects using a learn-by-doing methodology to train community groups in basic construction and how to plan, supervise and maintain basic social infrastructure.
Communities are encouraged to contribute as much local resources as possible to the project, and savings made are reinvested in the community through additional follow on projects which are implemented by the community.
In this programme, GOAL coordinates with the Honduran National Institute for Vocational Training (INFOP) and the Honduran Social Investment Fund to certify the training provided, which will permit communities to be contracted by state agencies for future development projects.
