Crisis Recovery
GOAL is currently supporting a crisis recovery programme in the southern Sindh region of Pakistan.
In the initial weeks following the flooding disaster of July-August 2010, GOAL assisted local partner organisations in the emergency evacuation of flood-affected and flood-threatened populations.
We also supported the distribution of NFI (non-food items) such as plastic sheeting for shelter to more than 45,000 affected people, and we provided hygiene kits, cooking utensils, basic health kits and other items to some of those most in need.
As part of an early recovery programme, GOAL implemented an extensive WASH (Water, Sanitation and Health) programme across 72 IDP (internally displaced persons) camps in Sindh Province targeting vulnerable mothers and children with clean water, sanitation, bathing shelters and conducting health and hygiene promotion sessions. Food and water purification tablets have also been distributed to beleaguered communities.
GOAL and its partners also implemented a large emergency shelter programme targeting over 30,000 people who without this assistance would have been left vulnerable to the extremely harsh environments of Southern Pakistan.
GOAL continues its work in Larkana District of Sindh Province by screening for malnutrition and conducting feeding and supplementary feeding programmes, with children and lactating mothers as a priority.
