Where we Work

Disaster Prevention and Mitigation

GOAL initiates and trains village protection committees in Malawi on disaster prevention and mitigation.

These activities involve disaster awareness and management, organisation and planning, the latter including vulnerability analysis.

We also provide rescue kits and first-aid equipment, and give training in their use.

GOAL also conducts disaster awareness events in local health centres and schools; we produce and supply the materials for these, and orientate teachers and health centre staff on disaster preparedness.

We have established multiple early warning and data collection stations, and given training on these, and provided communication equipment to villages and tutored village committees in its use.

Periodically, GOAL conducts refresher training sessions with communities and village committees on emergency response plans and programmes, and on disaster preparedness and long-term risk reduction.

We also give practical support to the development and finalising of emergency response plans, and give technical and material support to small-scale mitigation initiates by village committees.

Since 1977, GOAL has spent in excess of €720 million delivering aid to some of the most vulnerable people in the developing world. We have achieved all this on an exceptionally low administration cost base.
