GOAL Mile FAQ
Do I need to register in advance? No, there is no need for registration – just turn up on the day at the location that suits you best.
Can I get sponsorship cards? Yes you can get sponsorship cards. These are available from your local Mile organiser or from the GOAL office on 01 2809779. However sponsorship is optional and not a requirement.
What do I wear? There is no requirement to wear running shoes/sports gear as the Mile is all about holding an event in the community. You can run, walk or even crawl the Mile. Whatever is comfortable for you on the day.
What happens if the weather is bad? All Miles will take place unless the weather is deemed unsafe due to high winds, ice etc. Each organiser will make a decision on holding the event in their location on the day. It depends on the surface of where the Mile is taking place but the decision is down to the organiser of the Mile.
Who can take part? All ages can take part but if a mile location is particularly busy, buggies etc may not be allowed on the track. This is location dependent.
Can I bring dog? Again this is location dependent but if there is an accident due to a dog (on or off a lead), no insurance claim can be made.
How much to enter? There is no “entry” fee for the Mile, you can just donate what you wish on the day.
Is it competitive? We do not advertise the Mile as a competitive event but some people do time themselves.
Where does the money go? GOAL is currently working in 13 developing world countries: Ethiopia, Honduras, India, Kenya, Malawi, Niger, Sierra Leone, Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Haiti and Pakistan. All monies raised will go towards our many relief programmes in these countries.
Can I help on the day? If you wish to help on the day, please contact your local Mile organiser.
