Costing just €4,500, each comes complete with water and sanitation and is equipped with a stove, mattresses, blankets, cooking utensils, and mosquito nets for protection against malaria.
So many young parents have died from Aids-related illnesses that every Ugandan village, town and city has groups of orphans wandering the streets, without a home or anyone to look after them.
Aside from the street children, there are innumerable elderly people, barely able to fend for themselves, who have been left as sole custodians of sometimes five or six grandchildren of primary school age and younger.
GOAL has so far built in excess of 1,000 houses for these Ugandan Aids orphans and vulnerable families. By making a donation, you can help us build more.
Case Study: Jane Muthumba Namwandu
Jane has been a widow for many years. She takes care of a large extended family with many children; the majority of them belonging to her equally poor relatives.
Jane and her extended family were living in a very small hut that was in an extremely poor state of disrepair, with a leaking roof, and no toilet or sanitation facilities.
She was very excited when her new GOAL house was completed. “I now have a place to rest, and my children can get back to school. I am like someone who is sleep-walking,” she said. “Is this really true?”
