Model Village Programme
Four such programmes are currently being implemented across some of the most disadvantaged parts of India’s West Bengal, a key area for child trafficking.
In supporting the comprehensive development of areas of abject poverty, GOAL hopes to stem the tide of child trafficking to places such as Kolkata, where the children typically end up destitute and living on the streets.
As a result of our Rural Model Village Programme, education for children in the age group of 6-14 years has been improved; the health status of families has been improved; the health status of mothers and their children through accessing Government health entitlements has been improved; and family earnings have been increased, leading to improved livelihoods status.
These outcomes are achieved by providing access to safe drinking-water; facilitating and encouraging the systematic disposal of waste; providing latrines, tube wells and solar lighting systems; and by building, rehabilitating and furnishing schools.
