Education is a cornerstone of GOAL's work in the developing world
GOAL works for the benefit of children, young people and their families in the developing world, whose lives are immeasurably different to our own.

We are separated, not just by distance, but by the many differences that exist between us: our quality of life, our opportunities and even our understanding of one another.

GOAL wants to help bridge the gap between our lives and theirs, by telling their stories.

GOAL visits many schools annually across the entire island of Ireland to bring those stories to life in your classroom through film, photographs and first-hand experience of GOAL’s work overseas.

Please contact Maeve Seery at schools@goal.ie or telephone  00 353 (0) 1 2809779 to request a visit to your school.

Leaving Certificate students from St. Peter’s College Secondary School in Wexford made GOAL the focus of their Enterprise Education Link Module last year.  The students had this to say about their experience of the project.

Joseph O'Keeffe L.C.V.P.2 Student

“We chose GOAL for our LCVP 2 Community/Voluntary Organisation project because we were aware of the crisis in the Horn of Africa. We researched GOAL for our project and we were very impressed with the work they do in under-developed countries and we saw this as an opportunity to help GOAL. Knowing that the money we collected would help the people in the Horn of Africa was very rewarding”.

Ciarán Murphy L.C.V.P.2 Student

“Our LCVP Group felt that we wanted to raise money for an organisation that would help people who are in dire need. We chose GOAL because it is Irish and an organisation that helps the poorest of the poor. GOAL has been very active in trying to help as many people as possible, especially in areas affected by natural disasters and political strife.  We organised a collection for GOAL in our home town of Wexford. Ahead of the collection day we were delighted to welcome Maeve Seery (Development Education Coordinator) to our school for a talk on the work carried out by GOAL.  She provided hi-vis vests, stickers and sealed collection buckets as well as the Garda permit. The talk from Maeve really fired us up to collect as much money as we possibly could for the organisation. By investigating and researching the organisation and from speaking to Maeve, I now understand that the money we collected will be used to provide food, shelter, wells and schools for people who have so little. And although I am not personally out there with the people who need help, at least I can say I have done something to help!”.
