Livelihoods
As part of our livelihoods programme, GOAL is working with local communities in Ethiopia to help them recover from food shortages, and to enhance their ability to cope with future food crises.
We are currently running an innovative seed storage programme which pilots local technology that can be replicated to reduce post harvest loss of seeds due to infestation and poor storage.
In order to address the underlying causes of malnutrition, GOAL is implementing a number of localised pilot projects that couple nutrition, education and livelihoods activities such as household vegetable gardens, school vegetable demonstration plots, production of fruit and ‘moringa’ seedlings at household level, training on vegetable production and small-scale drip irrigation.
GOAL also implements livelihoods recovery programmes targeted at families in highly food insecure areas. Families are provided with seeds, tools, fertilisers and training to maximise the yield from subsequent harvests.
