Livelihoods and WASH
In drought and famine prone Niger, GOAL is currently supporting an extensive livelihoods and water, sanitation and hygiene programme (WASH) in 74 villages across Mirriah District, Zinder Region, in the south of Niger.
GOAL is working with the most vulnerable members of the community to help them increase and sustain their food production. We are also working to build community capacity, and on environmental issues.
The WASH component contributes to an overall improvement in the health of the most vulnerable population by providing new water points or renovating old ones, providing household and public sanitation facilities, and training individuals and communities in their upkeep and renovation.
Soap is distributed, and training sessions are conducted in personal and public hygiene best practices, with a particular emphasis on mothers and infants.
We are also implementing livelihoods activities, such as cereal bank construction and water point rehabilitation, where appropriate.
