GOAL appoints Barry Andrews as Chief Executive Officer

GOAL has announced the appointment of Barry Andrews to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the organisation.

A former Minister of State for Children and Youth Affairs for the Irish Government from 2008 to 2011, Mr Andrews, a barrister and married father of three, has a wealth of experience in public policy, education and law.

Welcoming the appointment, GOAL chairman Pat O’Mahony said: “On behalf of everyone at GOAL, I want to offer the warmest welcome to our new CEO, Barry Andrews as the organisation grows and remains true to its ethos to deliver aid to the poorest of the poor.

“Mr Andrews will take up his post shortly. He will initially meet with international donors, governments and senior staff in each of the 12 countries where GOAL currently operates.”

Mr O’Mahony also expressed his gratitude to PWC and independent interview panel members, Senator Martin McAleese; HR consultant, Mary Murphy and former Director General of the Department of Justice and GOAL Board member, Tim Dalton.

Mr Andrews said: “I am delighted to take up this new challenge with Ireland’s best and most effective humanitarian aid agency. I look forward to the challenges ahead and build on the historic legacy of my predecessor and the organisation’s founder, John O’Shea.”
