Where we Work

Zimbabwe Profile

 Map source: OCHA/ReliefWeb
Zimbabwe is a landlocked country in southern Africa with a population of more than 12 million. It has three official languages: English, Shona (a Bantu language), and Ndebele (also a Bantu language).

The Zimbabwean economy is in a state of prolonged crisis and the country is experiencing one of the world’s worst HIV epidemics. At least 3,200 people die each week from Aids (UN 2005), and the disease accounts for some 75 per cent of all hospital admissions.

There are an estimated 1.3 million orphans in Zimbabwe, and 1.8 million people are living with HIV and AIDS.
