Livestock across east Africa are facing complete decimation from a drought that has already killed tens of thousands of animals in the region. Up to 70% of cattle, 60% of camels and 90% of donkeys have already died of starvation. The people in the region depend on their animals directly for food ? milk and meat, and indirectly for food and income when they can sell livestock on the local markets. Pastorals are now migrating to other areas in the hope of sourcing water for their animals. March 2006
