Thousands attend GOAL Miles

GOAL
Miles were held at 83 venues in Ireland and overseas at Christmas,
raising hundreds of thousands for the poorest of the poor in the
Developing World.
People of all ages ran or walked a Mile in
towns, villages and communities right across the country.
GOAL Patrons and celebrities joined familes
to take part in the event, while a number of Ireland's top jockeys
took part in a special GOAL sprint in the parade ring at the Leopardstown
racing festival on St Stephen's Day.
The first GOAL mile, which was the brainchild
of former GOAL chairperson and international athlete, Noel Carroll,
took place in the Phoenix Park, Dublin in 1982.
The following year it transferred to Belfield
and has been there ever since, becoming an integral part of Christmas
for the many families who take up the baton to help those less fortunate
than themselves.
