GOAL appeal for skilled
workers for Haiti
13th January, 2010
GOAL are seeking civil engineers, logisticians,
and accountants with experience of Third World conditions for their
relief and rehabilitation programmes in Haiti.
The agency, which has pledged €250,000
for immediate relief, believes that alleviating the suffering of
some of the thousands of people affected by the earthquake will
require a huge effort on the part of the International Community.
GOAL CEO, John O’Shea said: "All
the indications are that this is a catastrophe of substantial proportions.
“The desperately vulnerable of Haiti
– and they comprise the bulk of the country’s 10 million
inhabitants - will require all the basics – food, medical
attention, clothing and shelter over the coming weeks and months.”
GOAL’s team leader on the ground, Darren
Hanniffy, a civil engineer, will, over the coming days, assess how
best GOAL and our partner agency, Haven, can assist some of those
in most urgent need.
“These poor people were in dire need
before the earthquake. Their plight now is horrendous," said
Mr. O'Shea.
